    I-9 Form

    By José M. Álvarez-Allende | News | Comments are Closed | 27 February, 2017 | 0

Recently, the US Immigration and Citizenship Service (“USCIS”) published an updated version of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form, better known as the Form I-9. Employers will be required to use the new form as of January 22, 2017. The main purpose of the Form is to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired to work in the United States and, both the employer and the employee are required to complete the same. This updated version has the purpose of reducing the most common mistakes made during the completion of the Form and thus, making it easier for the user to fill it out.

As part of the changes, the instructions are now provided in the Spanish language and in a much more detailed way. Also, the Form is available in pdf format so users can fill it out digitally (nonetheless, users still have to print and deliver the form physically; it cannot be submitted digitally). One of the perks of filling the form digitally is that the system provides drop-down lists in certain fields. Another advantage is that, when necessary, the system will notify the user when a required field has been left blank.

The new I-9 Form can be accessed at the following link – https://www.uscis.gov/i-9

    Formulario I-9
